Grams in Cups is a free kitchen conversion site with one job: turning the weights in a recipe into the cups and spoons already in your drawer, accurately and in plain language.
Why we built it
Recipes from the UK, Europe and Australia list ingredients in grams, but most American kitchens are stocked with measuring cups. Generic unit converters treat every ingredient the same, which is how “200 g of flour” turns into a dense, dry cake. We wanted a converter that knows a cup of flour weighs far less than a cup of sugar, and that gives you an answer you can actually measure, like “¾ cup + 1 tbsp”, instead of a long decimal.
What makes our converter different
- Ingredient-specific weights. Every one of our 65+ ingredients has its own grams-per-cup value.
- Measurable results. Answers are broken down into standard cups, tablespoons and teaspoons.
- Every cup size. Switch between US, US legal, metric and UK imperial cups.
- Open methodology. We publish exactly how each number is calculated and which measuring method it assumes.
How we keep the numbers accurate
Our ingredient weights are based on USDA FoodData Central household measures and widely used baking weight charts, standardized to a level US cup of 236.6 ml. When a reader reports a value that looks off, we check it against those sources and update the database so every tool and table on the site stays consistent.
